The four lead tags served as labels accompanying consignments of goods intended for sale. The inscriptions engraved on the faces of the objects allow us to identify the products being traded: they mention, respectively, pig glue, myrrh oil, nard oil (both used in medicine and cosmetics) and fish sauces. All the shipments also contained bales of wool in varying quantities: these served as useful packaging for the most valuable items during transport, but were sold as separate goods once they reached their destination markets. Finally, the inscriptions mention the owners of the various consignments: Tigride, a woman of slave origin; Ebuzio; Ostilio Asiatico, a member of an important family from Venetia, very active in trade with the East; and Menandro, a slave, possibly of Greek origin.
